Professional Development
Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand.” Proverbs 19:21
I set the following goals for myself while finishing my sophomore year, and while I’ve worked to meet them over the last several years, I will continue to create new goals and grow as an educator throughout the entirety of my career.
Seek out opportunities where I can foster my skills as an educator.
– Taking what I’ve learned in class and putting it to use elsewhere will help me better develop my skills and prepare me for when I have my own classroom.
– I have worked with school-age kids (K-5) at a local daycare for two years now, and I have been able to grow my classroom management and disciplinary skills, among others, in this time.
Expose myself to more diverse groups of people.
– Doing this will help prepare me for various demographics I may face in my own classroom.
– I have volunteered on countless servant events through my home church, completed field experience at a women and children’s homeless shelter close to downtown Lincoln, NE, and observed at Goodrich Middle School in Lincoln, NE to gain first-hand experience with diverse cultures.
Keep Christ at the center of all I do – in and out of the classroom.
– As I prepare to become a teacher in a Lutheran school, I find it important to have a strong relationship with God so I can be a spiritual role model for my students.
– I have taken steps over the last several years to grow in my relationship with God, including personal devotion time, studying theology, and partaking in discussions with peers.
