Sublimation of Iodine (video) – This video provides an aesthetically-pleasing look at the sublimation of iodine, both from solid to gas and from gas to solid. Most of the phase changes make sense to me, but this video provides a helpful model for a state phase not seen in daily life.
Kinetic Sand (article & video) – Kinetic sand is such an interesting toy for children and I was wondering if the “kinetic” in the name linked with atomic theory. Indeed, the atoms within the 2% of the product have distinctions that give the special sand its unique properties. This site helped address some of my misconceptions with the phenomena of “Kinetic Sand.”
Why Bridges Move (video) & The Might Mac (article) – This summer, I had the opportunity to cross the Mackinac Bridge. It stressed me out, but it was fascinating to learn about how it works. Suspension bridges have thermal expansion as a basis, thus directly connecting to Kinetic Theory.
