Hello there, my name is Harmony Fiala, I am a student at Concordia University in Nebraska. I am working towards my Bachelor’s Degree in Middle level Education concentrations in Physical Education and Business, plus earning my Lutheran Teaching Diploma. I am currently involved in the clubs CASE (Concordia Association of Students in Education) as well as Ski and Snowboarding Club. I am also an active participant in intramural sports. I was born to my parents James and Amy Fiala in February of 1996, in St. Peter, Mn. I have a younger sister named Melony and they all currently live in Fremont, Ne. We are active members in our church Trinity Lutheran in Fremont. My sister and I went there when we were in elementary and middle school. Then I went off to Cedar Bluffs High School in Cedar Bluffs, Ne, about 8 miles outside of Fremont. I graduated from Cedar Bluffs in May of 2014, and started at Concordia in the fall.
While in middle school and high school I was involved in all sports that were available to me, plus a lot of other extracurricular activities. I still pursue all of those interests here at Concordia. I love being able to have the opportunity to be involved in so many different things and I would love to continue that love for staying active, when I am in my future career.
This love for being active is one of the main reasons why I choose Physical Education as one of my concentrations. I love being able to play all sorts of different games and I care deeply about the fact that children need to be active in their lives as well. Obesity is one of the major concerns in our country nowadays. I want to be able to have the opportunity to set the right way to eat and stay active in children at the crucial age of middle schoolers. If we can get it into their heads that they need to stay active and eat right at this age, the likelihood of them keeping the habits they learn then, are enormously active for the rest of their lives.
I choose Business as my second concentration because I believe having an understanding of how to save money and the way financial accounting works at a young age is smart because they will remember those ideas we teach them for the rest of their lives. Another reason I choose business is because most middle schools do not have an official class that teaches specifically business practices, but mostly computer technology advancements and information. Not to toot my own horn but, TOOT; I know my way around a computer and I would be really good at teaching students all the different things they should know about a computer that will help them with their future schooling and careers.
I am working on getting my Lutheran Teaching Diploma because the teachers that I had at Trinity Lutheran made such a huge influence on my life. They made such a huge impact on my life because they were great people, excellent teachers and wholehearted Christians. The way they brought the Christian aspect into the classroom really settled in my heart. I want to be able to have the same impact on my future students that my teachers had on me. I know that I would still be a really amazing teacher in a public school, but I feel that I could do my absolute best teaching when I could bring Jesus into my classroom.
