Student Teaching I

I served my first 8 weeks of student teaching at David City Public High School, 25 miles north of CUNE. I taught with Mr. Ferg and Mr. Van Winkle. I had a normal-sized workload with two preps and six total classes. I taught 11th grade American History and 10th grade American History. I learned a ton about building relationships with students, managing time as a professional, and handling various situations that you could never possibly learn about in a college class.

A big milestone for me in Student Teaching I was when I decided to switch to Pear Deck in my classroom. Pear Deck is an add-on to Google that allows you to create interesting presentations that include a variety of assessments. I wasn’t satisfied with my first few weeks of lectures because the students obviously weren’t listening and were copying down notes without grasping the information. Pear Deck allowed me to explain myself, assess the students constantly, and move at a pace that was comfortable. The students seemed to really enjoy those class periods and I was very satisfied with the outcome. I included an example of one of those lessons to feed your curiosity.
