Capstone

9th Grade English — Concordia Jr.-Sr. High School — Omaha, NE
Working with a foreign exchange student from South Korea

What I did:

I taught a mini-unit on the myth, “Perseus,” by Edith Hamilton. On the first day I introduced an overview on Greek mythology and plot archetypes. The second day was spent reading the story, and on the third day students got to use Adobe Voice to create a review of the story.

What I learned:

Students love the opportunity to get to be interactive in the classroom and share their thoughts and ideas. On the first day I used Nearpod to present Greek mythology and archetypes to them, and they loved the interaction that was available with the presentation. They also enjoyed getting to use Adobe Voice, which allowed them a lot of control over the product that they got to make. I was impressed with how creative some of their work was and how much fun ninth-grade students can be!
