Hi, my name is Paige Borcherding and I am a senior here at Concordia University. I’m studying Elementary Education with a concentration in Physical Education.
I was born in Fairmont, Minnesota, to my parents, David and Wendy. Both are Lutheran teachers. 2 years after I was born, we moved to Independence, Missouri where both of my parents taught at the same school. I was lucky enough to have both of my parents as teachers growing up. They’re major influences on why I want to become a Lutheran teacher as well. Soon after moving to Missouri, my sister, Katie was born.
When I was entering fourth grade, my mom took a call to teach at Messiah Lutheran in Lincoln, NE. We moved here which was sad for me to leave my friends, but my grandparents and extended family are from Lincoln so I’ve been able to spend much more time with them which has been fun. I attended Lincoln Lutheran throughout middle and high school where I was involved with many sports and activities such as cross country, basketball, soccer, choir, and drama. I love being active, especially outdoors and in warm weather. A few of my favorite activities include playing frisbee golf, soccer, biking, and yes, I even love long distance running.
Being involved with many sports and activities at a Lutheran school helped me decide that I want to become a Lutheran Physical Education teacher for elementary students. One of my favorite teachers growing up was my P.E. teacher in elementary school, and she was also a major influence on my decision to become an elementary P.E. teacher.
After I graduate, I hope to be teaching somewhere in the Midwest. I wouldn’t mind leaving Nebraska, but I would still prefer to be teaching within the Midwest so that I can still be close to my family. The biggest role I want to play as a teacher is that I want to leave a lasting impact on my students.
I want to be remembered by students as a parent for the students that don’t have a parent figure in their life, a trustworthy teacher so that students feel comfortable coming to me about anything, and a teacher who teaches the students more than P.E. games and activities but also one who teaches life skills that they need as they go throughout life.
